An apology and a Double-Take
January 22, 2007
Mother Nature (MN) endowed human beings with four
parathyroid glands. Apparently any one parathyroid gland (or
even a portion of one) can perform calcium regulating duties
in the human body just as well as all four of them combined.
MN probably anticipated potential manufacturer’s defects in
the glands and provided us with spares. Defective
parathyroid glands can be surgically removed and life goes
on (supposedly better than before).
That explains my 1-week absence from the blogosphere. It was
my turn to visit the professional surgeons and staff at UNC,
Chapel Hill, for a parathyroidectomy. Doesn’t that just roll
off your tongue? Now I’m down 25% of my parathyroid gland
original issue; I have a new scar on my neck (not big enough
to make up stories about or brag); and I have to consume
eight TUMS tablets every day for about two weeks. The TUMS
provide extra calcium for my body while it recovers from the
effects of the banished malfunctioning gland.
Thus infused with calcium, and temporarily protected against
stomach upset, I survived the sudden news that Hillary
Rodham Clinton had thrown her bonnet into the Democratic
Party presidential candidate asylum. Thanks GlaxoSmithKline,
for the TUMS. Your sales are sure to increase due to
Hillary’s entry in the race; just as surely as her
announcement caused an immediate 88-point decline in the
DOW.
Hillary of course, doesn’t have a chance of becoming
president. Her “me too” proclamation issued so soon after
Barack Obama announced his intention to run, inadvertently
alienated most of America’s black voters who will perceive
Hillary’s behavior as an attempt to “keep the black man
down.” And just when Obama was building up steam.
Call me old-fashioned, but I always believed our president
should exemplify moral values primarily by setting an
impeccable example. Hillary fails on that count. Can she
truly expect America’s women to vote for her after she
turned the other cheek (no pun intended) to a husband intent
on trashing his marital vows by sampling other women’s
natural resources? Only a desperate, “weak” woman stays with
a cheating husband. We don’t need a desperate, weak
personality in the White House. We already tried that and it
isn’t working.
Will rank and file Republicans switch loyalties to vote for
Hillary? I highly doubt that. Her Majesty Nancy Pelosi has
pretty much ruined America’s expectations related to female
politicians in the Democratic Party. Wasn’t it she who
orchestrated the House’s blitzvote passage of several
totally insignificant bills destined to become lost in the
Senate or vetoed by the president? That was a brilliantly
publicized total waste of America’s time. So much for female
politicians. They are more concerned with minimum wage than
the war in Iraq, and they’re all the same. I know, that is a
stereotype but in today’s topsy-turvy world, perception is
reality.
Lets recap. Hillary has lost the blacks, America’s women,
rank and file Republicans and Democrats with brains. That
leaves a few minority groups, special interest factions,
feminists and gays to vote for her. Not enough to become
president. I don’t even think Bill would vote for her. Well,
maybe if she enhanced some of her ah, natural resources.
Sorry Hillary, no cigar. With any luck, your “Exploratory
Committee” (focus Hillary, I’m not referring to Bill) will
lose its way and we can all resume the serious business of
selecting and supporting “qualified” candidates for
president. Tell me this whole “I want to be president” thing
isn’t just a publicity stunt to increase sales of your book.
For the record Hillary; all it takes are decent, committed
parents, not a Village. On the plus side though, you're
looking great at 59.
