Colin Powel Supports Doctor Leon’s Iraq Assessment
November 29, 2006
Former Secretary of State Colin Powell said today “civil
war” describes Iraq now. Thank you Colin, for confirming my
previously published assessment.
Concurrent with Powell’s six-month-late revelation, a senior
Pentagon official announced the U.S. military will move at
least three more battalions of American soldiers into the
Iraqi capital.
This raises some interesting questions for which the
American people need credible answers. Since Iraq is now
confirmed to be in a state of civil war (who could doubt the
word of Colin Powell), what is the purpose of sending more
American soldiers into Baghdad to die? Which side of the
civil war are we on?
Do we favor the Sunnis or the Shi’ites? This is a real
paradox. If we lean towards the Shi'ites, that endears us to
Iran, but alienates Saudi Arabia. We need Saudi Arabia’s
influence with the oil cartel and of course the Saudi
Arabian oil. If we lean towards the Sunnis, Iran would
certainly send more terrorists into Iraq on the side of the
Shi’ites. There is no possible solution to this dilemma.
Why more troops in Baghdad? Are we providing marksmanship
targets for the opposing forces? Common sense dictates it
might be better for Sunnis and Shi’ites to be shooting at
themselves than us. Shouldn't we prefer the current practice
of both opposing factions practicing on their own police
forces?
It is time for every American soldier to be withdrawn from
Iraq. Let the Iraqi people wake up tomorrow morning with
their most earnest wish; all Americans out of their country.
They can then fight it out amongst themselves and our
military can move on to more pressing issues like building a
fence along the U.S./Canadian border to keep out all of the
less-expensive prescription drugs so desperately required by
our ageing population on fixed incomes.
(Colin, just because you agree with me (and I sincerely
thank you for that); I hope your sudden entry into the
semantic fray over civil war in Iraq does not represent a
“test the waters” ploy on your part for the next
presidential race. We want an HONEST president (and vice
president) the next time around.)
