Kofi Annon, Go Home
November 27, 2006
In yet another magnificent display of morbid delusion, U.N. Secretary General Kofi
Annan said today Iraq is “close” to civil war. He told
reporters “I think given the developments on the ground,
unless something is done drastically and urgently to arrest
the deteriorating situation, we could be there. In fact we
are almost there.”
We appear to be faced with another semantic battle, this
time over the correct definition of “civil war.” First we
had to re-learn the long-standing definition of “sex”
because Clinton “did not have sex with that woman.” Now it
seems Kofi Annon would have us re-learn our definition of
“civil war.”
I vote “NO.” A common sense definition of civil war is “a state of
open terrorism or war between competing religious, political
or racial groups within the confines of a recognized
national entity.” Iraq is chest deep in a religious civil
war. To think or state otherwise is pure delusion.
Mr. Annon, here is a solution. Select ten U.N. diplomats at
random. Fly them to Baghdad (assuming the airport re-opens).
Once there, they must put on shirts with the words “Ahl
ul-Sunna” printed in large bold letters on the back. Send
them to Sadr City to stroll the avenues for eight hours
while wearing the shirts. If any of them can return to the
airport after eight hours, Iraq is “close” to civil war. If
none of them return, we are “there.”
America has had enough of the U.N., and Kofi Annan. From
where I stand (or sit), the U.N. has not accomplished
anything of import since its inception. There is no progress
in North Korea, Darfur, Iraq, Lebanon, Jordan, Iran,
Afghanistan or any number of other trouble spots in the
world." There are only words, words, and more words.
Go home Kofi, and take the entire U.N. delegation with you.
We need the U.N. real estate to house our poor and homeless.
That way, at least U.S. taxpayer funds would benefit U.S.
citizens.
I understand one of your personal causes is dealing with the
increasing epidemic of AIDS/HIV in Africa. That being the
case, why don’t you stop talking incessantly about it and
instead, travel around Africa handing out condoms. The
remainder of the U.N. force can teach everyone there how to
use them. It seems a proper and fitting mission for an
organization with no current accomplishments to speak of.
