Saddle-up Sally, You’re Going To War
November 20, 2006
Yes; Doctor Leon has finally
succumbed to the blogging itch. (Mr. Gates, please update
your spell checker to include the word “blogging.”)
The straw that broke the proverbial camel’s back was today’s
CNN article about Congressman Charles Rangel’s plan to
rip screaming, terrified children out of their mothers’ arms
in order to grant mommy an involuntary trip into combat and
possible death in North Korea, Iran, or what is left of
Iraq.
Mr. Rangel perceives it his patriotic duty to provoke future
wars with North Korea and Iran. He would
draft and send our women overseas to fight in place of the
dwindling number of men too street-smart to volunteer for military
service.
The previously esteemed Mr. Rangel has taken leave of his
marbles. Any student of history could tell him a draft will only increase significantly the male populations
of Canada and possibly Mexico. Imagine; Mexico having an
illegal immigration problem with American men attempting to
avoid the draft. The Mexican police could retire very
comfortably on all the bribes they would extort from
Americans crossing their border.
The obvious answer to Rangel’s self-perceived dilemma of
insufficient military manpower to fight the wars he intends
to provoke is not to draft American citizens, but instead
illegal (yes, I said “illegal”) aliens already residing in
this country who desire to be citizens. Rumor has it there
are millions of them. They can either leave or serve.
Service guarantees American citizenship and the pleasure of
lifelong income taxes to fund unpopular wars.
From a psychological standpoint, Rangel’s mindset and behavior lends
credence to the stereotypical (and generally accepted)
belief that advanced age diminishes reasoning skills. Rangel has produced a truly sterling
career of service to his constituents in New York. It is sad
to see advancing age (Rangel is 76) strip a man of his
cognitive reasoning powers. Permitting Mr. Rangel to
influence American policy is akin to forcing Mohammed Ali to
forego retirement to fight Mike Tyson. There's just
something wrong with that picture.
Thank you Mr. Rangel for ruining my day. I thought the men of
this great country had more respect for women. I highly
doubt your draft proposals will see the light of day in the
new congress, even a congress controlled by Democrats. They
have more important issues to deal with like free health
insurance for illegal aliens and constituents too lazy to
work.
